Chief Purpose of this position

The Department of Health Administration is seeking two faculty colleagues to collaborate in teaching, service, and scholarship in the Department. These positions will entail significant teaching responsibilities in the MHA, MSHA, and undergraduate programs. One position will teach predominantly in the graduate program and may, upon hire, assume responsibility for program management of various certificates. The other position will teach predominantly in the undergraduate program, with perhaps some graduate teaching responsibilities, if needed.  Service activities include representing the Department in national professional organizations, such as AUPHA, ACHE, NAHSE, NCHL, and committee service at the Department, College, and University levels. This position also involves key advising duties, which may include supporting graduate and undergraduate students in service learning and professional development, securing internship and/or residency placements, connecting students with the alumni network, providing mentoring during the administrative residency, and career coaching.

The faculty employee classification of this position will be a 12-month full-time appointment if it is determined that teaching and program management duties will be assigned.

Position Responsibilities

  • Teaching: The faculty members have teaching responsibilities in the Department’s masters and undergraduate programs. Areas may include health systems organization, management of healthcare delivery organizations, physician group management, human resources management, strategy, marketing, innovation, ambulatory management, post acute/long-term care management, executive skills, residency practicums, or other specialized areas depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, this position may, upon hire or later, assume program management responsibility within the department.
  • Research: The faculty members will share in promoting the scholarship and research of the department’s faculty and students.
  • Service: The faculty members will serve internally on Departmental, College, and/or University committees as assigned. The faculty members will represent the Department to selected professional organizations, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, or conference organizer.
  • Other (For instance administrative duties, etc.): Career advising, case competition coaching, etc.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s of Health Administration or its equivalent
  • Five or more years of experience as a leader/administrator in a healthcare setting
  • Track record of interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience as an executive leader in a healthcare organization
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Residential and online teaching experience
