JOB TITLE:
Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor Kinesiology Exercise Science
JOB PURPOSE:
Candidates for tenure-track positions will be expected to develop and maintain a robust research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and have research expertise appropriate for the effective mentoring of students at the undergraduate, master's, doctoral and post-doctoral levels. For the position designated at the Assistant Professor rank, candidates must demonstrate strong potential to build a nationally recognized, externally funded research program. For the position designated at the Associate rank, candidates will be expected to have an active research program at a level consistent with their research area and an established record of extramural funding and scholarly products.
Applicants whose research includes computational modeling, simulation, sports analytics, or data-driven analysis (AI) in kinesiology/exercise science may be eligible for a joint appointment with the University of Wyoming's School of Computing and additional research resources. This opportunity supports interdisciplinary collaboration in the emerging area of computational kinesiology data science.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses in exercise physiology, advanced exercise physiology, applied/clinical physiology, environmental physiology, motor development, motor behavior, and area(s) of expertise
- Develop and sustain (assistant rank) or sustain and elevate (associate rank) an active and independent research program in applied/human exercise physiology (clinical, environmental/altitude, sport performance/health) or closely related field, leading to peer-reviewed publications in the scientific community and national/international presentations
- Optional Opportunity: Joint support/resources or adjunct appointments may be available to candidates working in (1) the computational/data sciences (e.g., AI) through University of Wyoming School of Computing or (2) exercise and cancer through a partnership with the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute
- Pursue and secure funding to sustain an active and independent research program and support student researchers/trainees
- Contribute to service in the department, college, university, and profession; may include advising and accreditation review responsibilities
- Earned doctorate (or ABD no later than August 2026) in kinesiology/exercise science, exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, muscle physiology, environmental physiology, sport performance, exercise science, applied human performance, sports analytics, or closely related field
- Commensurate with career stage, evidence of the following:
- Ability to generate research contributions in kinesiology/exercise science or related fields
- Ability to teach university-level courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Ability to mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students
- Earned doctorate in kinesiology/exercise science, exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, muscle physiology, environmental physiology, sport performance, exercise science, applied human performance, sports analytics or closely related field
- Commensurate with career stage (assistant or associate), evidence of the following:
- Ability or experience to generate research contributions in kinesiology/exercise science or related fields
- Ability or experience teaching university-level courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Ability or experience mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students
- Evidence of developing (assistant rank) or established (associate rank) research program in human exercise physiology, exercise performance, exercise/physical activity and disease (risk/prevention/treatment), and/or integration across systems (e.g., cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular, nervous systems)
- Expertise and research interest in high-altitude physiology that leverages the unique elevation of Laramie, WY and exceptional opportunities/resources to conduct high-altitude human performance, adaptation, or chronic disease research
- Post-doctoral training
- Experience supervising graduate students in kinesiology/exercise science
- Certification/licensure in relevant professional associations, e.g., ACSM, NSCA
