Overview
The University of Mississippi Public Health Program invites applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position to begin in August 2024. For this position, we are particularly interested in faculty with content and research expertise in epidemiology. Primary responsibilities will include conducting nationally visible, externally funded research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology methods and in an epidemiology concentration area, supervising and mentoring graduate students, and participating in university and professional service.
The public health graduate and undergraduate programs are housed in the Department of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management (HESRM). HESRM encourages individuals with an interest in working as part of a team to develop and grow new CEPH-accredited public health programs to apply. At the assistant professor rank, candidates must demonstrate the potential for an externally fundable and nationally prominent line of epidemiology research. At the associate professor rank, candidates must have an active program of epidemiology research at the time of application that includes a strong record of extramurally funded research, peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, and other scholarly achievement. The School of Applied Sciences, located on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, MS (https://olemiss.edu/), is an inclusive home to approximately 150 faculty and staff, over 2,600 students, six academic departments including HESRM, three centers and an institute. The School currently serves 10 undergraduate, 10 master’s and four doctoral programs (https://sas.olemiss.edu/).
HESRM (http://hesrm.olemiss.edu) is home to 19 faculty, 4 staff members, and over 900 students from around the world. HESRM currently offers three undergraduate programs (Public Health & Health Sciences (PHHS), Exercise Science, and Sports and Recreation Administration), three master’s degree programs (MPH, M.S. in Exercise Science, and M.S. in Sports and Recreation Administration), and a PhD program in Health and Kinesiology with three emphasis areas (Health Behavior, Exercise Science, and Sports and Recreation). Our PHHS undergraduate degree has two concentrations (health science studies and community health) and our MPH has two concentrations (epidemiology and community health). Additionally, we have a joint PharmD/MPH program with our School of Pharmacy.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, or a health-related field by the time of employment
- Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a health-related field, preferably with a concentration in epidemiology
- Evidence of a strong public health research agenda with potential for securing competitive, extramural research funding
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral training
- Evidence of community engagement activities including but not limited to developing and maintaining partnerships with relevant public health agencies and organizations
- Previous experience with applying for and maintaining CEPH accreditation for public health programs
- History of developing and teaching online and remote courses
- CHES, MCHES, or CPH certification
