UCCS is currently seeking applications for a Program Specialist for the Sport Management Program in the College of Business (COB). The Program Specialist is an outgoing, enthusiastic, and people-oriented position. The position is primarily responsible for student recruitment and admissions in the Sport Management program in the College of Business. The position also oversees student engagement (prospective and current students), event planning and management, and program support activities. Some evenings and weekends may be required. Job Duties:

Student Recruitment to the Sport Management Program (60%)

  • Manages the recruitment and admissions process for the program.
  • Implements strategic plans to recruit and engage students.
  • Builds rapport and maintains communication with prospective students.
  • Recruits students by phone calls, mailings, emails, and webinars.
  • Conducts meetings with prospective students to provide information about the program.
  • Communicates with prospective students to distribute program information, inquiry response, application status, and program issues.
  • Provides periodic updates to the Sport Management program on admissions information to include statistics, application information, and enrollment and graduation data.
  • Continually improves recruitment and marketing strategies as they pertain to overall program awareness and student recruitment. This includes yield events and prospective student engagement activities.

Student Engagement (35%) 

  • Develops and implements a minimum of 10 events each year to support student learning opportunities (e.g. professional development, guest speakers, networking, etc.).
  • Works with the Program & Experiential Learning Coordinator to plan student engagement events.
  • Provides career counseling activities such as mock interviews and resume reviews.
  • Manages international internships to include assisting students with visa requirements, housing offerings, travel reimbursements, etc.
  • Counsels and mentors students as they progress through the program requirements.
  • Attends UCCS and COB engagement events such as the Career Networking Nights and commencement, etc.
  • Travels and attends offsite career focused events as a College of Business representative.
  • Represents the COB in appropriate professional and community settings.
  • Manages student club and club leaders to guide events and student engagement efforts, by which improving the overall culture of the Sport Management Program.

Program Support (5%) 

  • Assists the Faculty Director of the Sport Management Program with managing and reconciling the program budget.
  • Works with the COB Program Specialist to purchase programmatic swag and office supplies.
  • Manages the student program fee fund.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years of full-time equivalent marketing, event management, recruitment, or sales experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related sport discipline.
  • Experience with student engagement.
  • Experience with Olympic movement and the Colorado Springs sports community.
  • Experience working with faculty, students, and employers in a traditional university internship program or career center setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit.
  • Employee is occasionally required to move.
  • Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time
  • Ability to type on a keyboard and use a mouse continuously for long periods of time.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
