Overview

The School of Human Sciences at SIU Carbondale seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Sport Administration. This is a 9-month, continuing, tenure-track faculty appointment beginning August 16, 2024. Contingent on demand for teaching assignments, an additional summer session appointment is possible.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teach Sport Administration courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Areas might include Sport Analytics, Economic Aspects of Sport Business, Contemporary Issues in Sport Administration, and Athletic Administration. The teaching assignment will be based on the area of expertise of the chosen candidate.
  • Advise graduate students and serve on thesis/research project committees.
  • Initiate and implement a focused research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications & presentations.
  • Secure external funding for research and training projects.
  • Participate in professional associations and activities and university service appropriate to academic rank

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Sport Administration (or related field). Applicants who have completed all but the dissertation and who expect to complete all requirements for the doctorate prior to August 15, 2024, will be considered. If all degree requirements are not completed by that date, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (https://policies.siu.edu/personnel-policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.php).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching capability in Sport Analytics and Economics. Ability to work and code in R, Python, and other statistical programs.
  • Experience in serving on graduate thesis/research project committees.
  • Professional experience in the sport industry.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and faculty population.

The Sport Administration program is housed within the School of Human Sciences, which is one of the six member schools in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
