Overview

Schreiner University would like to announce an opening for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Exercise Science and Director of the SU Wellness Institute. The candidate will lead and further develop our well-equipped Exercise Physiology lab, supervise interns, and teach courses in the exercise science curriculum. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated clinical exercise physiologist with experience in lab management and possesses exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. The candidate will demonstrate expertise in exercise testing and prescription among healthy people, competitive athletes, and people with a range of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic disease.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Exercise Science and Sport Management Department Chair and Dean of Faculty, responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching and Research:
    • Conduct high-quality instruction in exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
    • Engage in cutting-edge research in exercise physiology, contributing to the academic community through publications and presentations.
  • Lab Management:
    • Oversee and manage the SU Wellness Institute laboratory facilities.
    • Ensure proper functioning of equipment and maintain a safe and productive research environment.
  • Clinical Expertise:
    • Demonstrate expertise in exercise testing and prescription for diverse populations, including healthy individuals, competitive athletes, and those with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic conditions.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to foster a multidisciplinary approach to research and teaching.
  • Mentorship:
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to undergraduate students, fostering their academic and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology or a related field. (ABD considered)
  • ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiology Certification and/or NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Certification.
  • CPR/BLS/ACLS
  • An interest in research and scholarly work with undergraduate students.
  • Experience in laboratory management.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
