Overview

The Department of Public Health and Healthcare Leadership (PHHL) in the Waldron College of Health and Human Services at Radford University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2024. This faculty position is part of a vibrant, growing department within an interprofessional health sciences learning community. The position is based at the Radford University Carilion (RUC) site located in downtown Roanoke, Virginia on the campus of Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital in the city’s Innovation Corridor. RUC is devoted to offering a rigorous real-world learning experience to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in the health sciences.

The PHHL department offers three undergraduate programs (B.S. in Healthcare Administration, B.S. in Health Sciences, and B.S. in Public Health) and three graduate programs (Master of Healthcare Administration, M.S. in Health Sciences, and Doctor of Health Sciences). PHHL programs are offered in a variety of formats, including 100% online or hybrid with traditional, dual-degree, and accelerated tracks, along with several focused concentrations.

Primary responsibilities

  • Teach synchronous online undergraduate health sciences and public health courses.
  • Advise undergraduate majors and minors.
  • Actively pursue a health-related scholarly agenda.
  • Engage in service to the university, college, department, and community through participation in activities and committees.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate with students, faculty, staff, and healthcare/community organizations.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Opportunities to teach graduate courses and serve on graduate Capstone Project committees are available.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Prior teaching and/or professional health experience.
  • Evidence of a research agenda with peer-reviewed presentations or publications.
  • Record of engagement in community service.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years teaching experience in higher education, including synchronous online instruction.
  • Current CHES/MCHES certification or eligible to take the CHES certification exam.
  • Experience with advising first generation students, transfer students, and adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Involvement in professional health-related organizations.

Education

  • Doctoral degree in public health, health education, health sciences, or related field.
  • Candidates who are ABD may be considered.
  • Degree must be from a regionally accredited college/university.
