Position Summary Information
Summary
This is a full-time non-tenure track faculty position with primary curricular and teaching responsibilities within the College of Medicine (COM) in the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences or other basic or clinical science department based on the candidate’s relevant experience and interests. The position requires understanding and oversight of contemporary curriculum delivery, content development, evaluation and performance outcomes. The individual will have primary teaching responsibilities in a foundational science or clinical discipline that is critical to the pre-clerkship phase of an undergraduate medical educational program and will report to the department chair with regard to faculty responsibilities. This faculty position will also serve in an administrative capacity as the M2 Program Director with responsibilities for detailed curricular design and integration to ensure an optimal student learning experience and future academic success. With respect to the administrative duties, this position will report to the Associate Dean for Medical Education.
TEACHING: Faculty are expected to make a significant contribution to the educational programs, including education leadership. Evaluating the success of teaching contributions may be based on student achievement, student evaluations, course director evaluations, and peer evaluations. Positive contributions to the teaching and learning environment through curriculum committee participation, curriculum leadership roles, and program development may provide avenues for achieving excellence in the category of teaching. Ongoing success in teaching activities is essential to maintaining a faculty appointment. The effort requirement for teaching and education leadership is [80%] of overall effort and will be primarily dedicated to the COM curriculum. The Department Chair, in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education (SADME) in the COM, will establish teaching assignments and contact hours, which may be modified as necessary to support the COM curricular needs. Each respective college will review faculty teaching performance and provide a formal annual evaluation to the Department Chair for inclusion in the faculty member annual review.
RESEARCH & SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY: Participation in scholarly activities and research focus areas is expected as appropriate to interests and expertise. The faculty member shall seek extramural funding opportunities, write and submit proposals, and conduct collaborative scholarly inquiry in their area of research. Faculty candidates for this position will be expected to contribute to the (medical education research focus area). Research, scholarly pursuits, and service responsibilities will be evaluated by the Department Chair and may be adjusted during the annual evaluation and performance plan process.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
TEACHING:
Contribute to the following:
• Participate in medical student education based on areas of expertise, contributing to direct teaching needs and education leadership.
• Deliver pre-clerkship content using innovative and effective techniques to engage medical students and enhance learning, e.g., “flip” the classroom sessions, actively learning modalities including peer instruction and problem-based learning, and development of modules using multimedia.
• Link course content to established learning objectives and assessments.
• Participate in activities that assure content is horizontally (within the course and between courses in the same semester) and vertically (across semesters and years) integrated. Collaborate with other faculty to ensure course content appropriately covers relevant content for the contemporary practice of medicine and emphasizes the content relevant for student success and to professional practice.
• Teaching contributions will include teaching in coursework that integrates biomedical sciences, behavioral and social sciences, humanities and ethics, as well as provides the important clinical contexts relevant to the profession.
EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION: M2 Program Director role
• Create a vision for the design and integration of the M2 phase of the Pre-clerkship. Curriculum for review and approval by the Curriculum Committee.
• Ensure that all intended learning outcomes of M2 courses are appropriately assessed, and that each student receives timely formative assessment and feedback during each step of the curriculum.
• In collaboration with course directors and faculty, ensure that the M2 curriculum develops a cohesive and coordinated schedule of learning and assessment activities.
• Provide mentorship, coaching, and advice to course directors and teaching faculty related to their curricular roles.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff about the M2 curriculum.
RESEARCH & SCHOLARLY PURSUITS:
Participate in scholarly activities and/or research focus areas as appropriate. Limited time for scholarly activity may be made available for selected candidates. Activities could include:
• Seek extramural funding opportunities, write and submit proposals, conduct collaborative scholarly inquiry.
• Maintain extramural funding and productivity, generate a percentage of base salary through extramural support.
• Publish quality papers.
• Serve on journal editorial board and peer-review committees
The overall effort dedicated to research and scholarship is [0-10%]. Evaluating the success of this research obligation will be based on efforts toward publication and grant success in the research focus areas of medical education.
Service
• Support and actively participate in the mission of the department, College of Medicine and University. by serving on department, College, and University committees as deemed appropriate. Provides service to the profession.
• Engagement in service activities in the Department, Colleges, and/or University is expected.
Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities.
Qualifications
Education/Degrees: Must possess a terminal degree in a relevant field or specialty.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in undergraduate, graduate, or medical student teaching.
