The Ellmer College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites qualified candidates to apply for a clinical assistant professor faculty position in the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene. This is a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure eligible clinical track position. As a member within the Ellmer College of Health Sciences and the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences, the School of Dental Hygiene offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (entry-level and online post-licensure) and a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (on-campus, and online). Our new, state-of-the-art facilities offer a 24-unit simulation lab, dental materials lab, dental hygiene research center, and on-campus 36-chair Dental Hygiene Care Facility. Annually, our students provide oral preventive care services to nearly 2,000 patients. Incoming faculty will be expected to maintain an active program of teaching, scholarship, and service for both undergraduate and graduate level programs, which includes mentoring graduate students in research. Further information about the School of Dental Hygiene is available online at http://www.odu.edu/dental.Position Type FullTimeMinimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications The candidate must have graduated from a Dental Hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), possess a bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene, and possess a master's degree in Dental Hygiene or equivalent. Potential candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain a Virginia dental hygiene license and be certified to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide analgesia. Candidates must have experience in effective dental hygiene clinical teaching, demonstrate effective oral and written communication, and have an active record of scholarship and involvement in service. Candidates must be available for full-time work and in-person teaching at the Norfolk, VA campus.Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities The candidate must: 1. Have graduated from a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) 2. Possess a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene and a master's degree in dental hygiene or equivalent 3. Be a licensed dental hygienist (or eligible for VA dental hygiene license) 4.
