The Johns Hopkins University Master of Education in the Health Professions (MEHP) program invites applications and nominations for an open-rank (non-tenured) clinical faculty position (clinical indicates an emphasis on teaching). This position is in the School of Education which ranks among the nation’s finest graduate education programs according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

The MEHP Program is an interprofessional partnership among the Schools of Education, Medicine, Nursing, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Carey Business School focused on the transformation of health professions education globally. The successful candidates will develop and teach online graduate courses, admit and advise students, share responsibility for program administration, provide program leadership and development, engage in research and scholarship, and engage in professional service at the school, university, national, and/or international levels. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to scholarly endeavors to advance the global discourse on research of interprofessional health professions education.

QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a doctorate related to health professions education, education, a health profession (i.e., PhD, EdD, MD, DNP, DrPH, and DPT), or a related field and demonstrated education experience related to health professions education or adult learning/development.

The preferred candidate for this position will have a breadth of educational experience related to the teaching of curriculum development, evidence-supported teaching, instructional strategies, assessment, learning/development theory, faculty development, educational scholarship, and/or educational leadership at the graduate level preferably in health professions education and/or adult development and learning. Candidates should specify their scholarly expertise, their teaching experience, and awards and honors.

Candidates should have a record of demonstrated experience in interprofessional collaboration, interprofessional education, student advisement, student support, scholarship, administration, leadership, research, and/or community building. The candidate’s office will be located in the School of Education in Baltimore.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the development, support, and advancement of health professions education and especially the MEHP community – its students, its faculty, its alumni, its stakeholders, and its impact. The candidate will be pursuing an academic career in Health Professions Education with broad interests and skills within health professions education. Special consideration will be given to extensive experience in the discipline of educational research methods. The candidate will have demonstrated scholarship with a preferred track record of securing funds commensurate with experience.

Health Professions Education Faculty Member (open rank): The MEHP seeks an educator with practical experience, research interests, leadership experience, administrative experience, and teaching expertise aligned with health professions education.

Candidates must have a doctorate in a health profession, health professions education, higher education or professional education, educational research/methods, or related field at time of appointment. Applicants should provide evidence of the following competencies and interests:

  1. Evidence of interest and ability to successfully teach professionals in a global, online graduate program
  2. Evidence of scholarship in health professions education, educational research methods, or related area with potential for excellence in scholarship in health professions education
  3. Expertise in educational research, educational leadership, and/or health professions education in medicine, nursing, public health, and/or allied health
  4. Experience or interest in teaching as a member of an interprofessional team
  5. Experience and skill to mentor and advise fellows
  6. Demonstrated experience in assisting with the administration of an academic program
  7. Experience in and commitment to interprofessional and intra-professional collaboration
  8. Expertise in educational research methods, program evaluation, and/or a specific health professions content area, program evaluation/ research methodology (qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods) appropriate for health professions education
  9. Demonstrated commitment to develop and maintain a networked, global community among MEHP fellows, alumni, and faculty
  10. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to the MEHP program within Hopkins and with the health professions educator community nationally and internationally
