Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a Tenure-Track (Probationary) position in Health Education in the Department of Health Science. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate community health education courses as well as large enrollment general education health courses. These courses may include: Personal Health, First Aid and CPR, Drug Education, Introduction to Health Education, Health Communication and Advocacy, Biostatistics, Health Administration, Grant Writing, Theories and Models of Health Education and courses pertaining to health education program planning, implementation, and evaluation (e.g., Health Education Planning, Implementing, and Evaluation). The position requires actively engaging in scholarship and continued professional development. All university faculty members are expected to participate in service to the discipline, department, university, and community. In addition, faculty members are responsible for advising and mentoring students.
- A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
- The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
- May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.
- The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
- All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the http://www.mnsu.edu/hr/bargaining.html
- Earned doctorate in Health Education, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, or closely related field. Doctoral coursework must reflect the Seven Areas of Responsibility of a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) (http://www.nchec.org/responsibilities-and-competencies). Doctorate must be conferred on an official transcript by September 30, 2020.
- Current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credential or CHES/MCHES eligible at the time of appointment.
- Two years of college teaching experience in health education (experience as a graduate teaching assistant is acceptable).
- Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications and/or professional presentations.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
- Instructor Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- University teaching experience in courses similar to those listed in the responsibilities.
- University teaching experience in a large enrollment general education course.
- Demonstrated the ability to develop and teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses using appropriate pedagogy and technology.
- Demonstrated ability initiate and sustain an active research agenda.
- Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor students.
- Evidence of collaborative ability.
- Evidence of department, college, university, and community service.
- Commitment to continued professional development.
- Previous community/public health work experience.
- Demonstrated service to the discipline at local, state, or national levels.
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating in and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
