The Search for the Dean of the College of Health Sciences

AGB Search is pleased to be assisting Des Moines University (DMU), a well-established graduate health science university in its search for its Dean of the College of Health Sciences. Located in the vibrant and growing capital city of Iowa, the University enrolls more than 1,500 students in three colleges, offering eight degree programs in medicine and the health sciences. The DMU mission is to improve lives in our global community by educating diverse groups of highly competent and compassionate health professionals.

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) was established in 1980 and enrolled its first students in the physician assistant program in 1981. The College’s programs now include a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Health Care Administration, and a Master of Public Health.

The University seeks an engaging, entrepreneurial, and collaborative leader who is a highly effective administrator in all dimensions and will implement the vision for the College of Health Sciences. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is responsible for providing collaborative and consultative academic leadership for all matters within the College of Health Sciences. The Dean has oversight of all CHS programs including the curriculum, planning and management of the College’s operating budget, and development of a strategic plan for the College aligned with the institutional vision as established by the Board and President.

Successful candidates will hold a doctoral degree, be qualified by education, training, and experience to provide effective leadership in health education, and have demonstrated scholarly activity. Five years of success in previous administrative, chair, or academic leadership roles is expected.

Opportunities for the new Dean include enhancing online programs in health administration and public health, tracking success and enrollment growth in current CHS programs, supporting a planned new program in occupational therapy, strategically implementing new programs in health sciences, and recruiting and affirming clinical sites for existing and new programs. Familiarity with the accreditation process is desired.
