Founded in 1955, the Sloan Program in Health Administration has been at the forefront of health administration education and research for over fifty-five years and was the nation’s first program to adopt a two-year academic curriculum. Today, the Sloan Program in Health Administration is preparing new generations of leaders to apply management and organizational expertise to the advancement of the health and well-being of people, families and communities around the world.

Offering a Master of Health Administration (MHA), a dual degree MHA/MBA with Johnson at Cornell, a dual degree MHA/MPA with CIPA at Cornell, an accelerated Bachelors/MHA, and access to extraordinary Cornell programs such as hotel management, labor relations, design, and law, the Sloan Program prepares professionals for leadership positions throughout the health care industry. Currently there are 65 full-time Sloan students and 39 executive (mostly online) students enrolled, and its continued success hinges upon providing a valuable program experience and enhanced career opportunities for students. The Associate Director will play a key role in driving the career services function of the Sloan Program in Health Administration. Reporting to the Director of the Sloan Program, the Associate Director will conceptualize, design, and deliver comprehensive career management advice to the Sloan students for summer internship and career placement. In the future, the Associate Director may extend placement services to the executive MHA students.

The Associate Director’s primary responsibilities include, in roughly descending order or importance:

  • Help place students in internships and full-time jobs in the health care industry; evaluate effectiveness of internships and job placements and make appropriate adjustments and changes.
  • Develop and implement a long-term plan for building, developing and initiating relationships with employers, including Sloan alumni, interested in hiring qualified Sloan students;
  • Hold one-on-one sessions to advise and coach students and develop customized plans for skill enhancement;
  • Manage the Sloan Colloquium Speaker Series; and
  • Work with the other Sloan administrators and faculty to make admission decisions.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, public policy or related filed, plus a minimum of 3 years experience in career development, professional coaching, or talent acquisition of professional/health care staff or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of the health care system, ideally some experience in the health care system, and a willingness to invest time to become deeply knowledgeable about the health care system.
  • Must be comfortable and effective working with a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge of career services resources and job search strategies, particularly in the health care field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), and must enjoy working with students in a highly interactive and engaged manner.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, be results-oriented, willing to invest time to develop relationships with students and employers, diligent, and persistent.
  • Aptitude and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, alumni, industry partners and potential employers.
  • Demonstrated maturity, judgment and professional etiquette.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, approximately 4 times per year.


A Master’s degree in economics, public policy, health administration, business, or other relevant field is preferred. Extensive experience in and knowledge of the health care field is preferred.
