Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, eleven-month, tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor (or Associate Professor with appropriate qualifications) and Athletic Training Program Director in the Department of Health and Exercise Science to begin September 1, 2021.

The mission of our Athletic Training Program is to provide educational opportunities in theory, practice, scholarship, and service pertaining to health-related fields, wellbeing, and sport. Through diverse curricular offerings and general education experiences, the program provides members of the Gustavus community with opportunities to enhance their personal wellbeing and become leaders in their professions, while embodying the core values of Gustavus – excellence, community, justice, service, and faith.

Major/Essential Functions: Gustavus faculty engage in teaching, scholarly research, and service to the college and department. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in the Athletic Training Program, which is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The successful candidate, along with athletic training faculty and staff, will be responsible for recruitment and retention of students, along with ensuring that students graduate with the requisite skills to pass the Board of Certification examination and become certified athletic trainers.

The candidate will be responsible for the phasing out of the Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training professional program. In addition, the candidate will develop and implement the Master’s in Athletic Training professional program in conjunction with athletic training faculty and will be responsible for ongoing program evaluation and maintaining CAATE accreditation. The candidate will also develop and maintain a research agenda along with actively participating in a variety of service opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (i.e., PhD or EdD) in Athletic Training or related field
  • Prior full-time academic appointment teaching Athletic Training at the post-secondary level
  • Prior experience with gaining and/or maintaining CAATE-accreditation of a professional Athletic Training program
  • Demonstrated contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas within the field of athletic training per CAATE standards
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching (examples of effectiveness may include student and/or mentor evaluations or evidence of professional development)
  • Evidence of a commitment to teaching and student advising
  • Certified and in good standing with the Athletic Training Board of Certification
  • Current or eligible for athletic training licensure in the state of Minnesota and good standing with current and prior state regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrated history of clinical practice as an athletic trainer
  • Ability to supervise and mentor master’s-level student research
  • Ability to establish an active program of scholarship
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Articulated commitment to the Liberal Arts
  • Prior experience as a program director of a professional Athletic Training program
  • Prior experience advising student-led research projects
  • Prior experience with online and blended learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop relationships and partnerships with healthcare professionals
