Overview

The Department of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa is seeking candidates with specific training and expertise in infectious disease epidemiology for a tenure-track faculty position. The faculty member will join a Department of 19 primary and 64 secondary and adjunct faculty members. The Department is dedicated to infectious disease epidemiology as a primary focus area with an established Center of Emerging Infectious Diseases. Outstanding collaboration between our faculty and the faculty from the health sciences and other colleges at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University is a hallmark of the Department. Duties of the faculty member will include conducting externally funded research, teaching of students and health professionals, advising students, mentoring faculty and students along with academic and public health service. Screening will begin as soon as possible and continue until position is filled. Anticipated start date could be as early as the 2017-2018 academic year.

Individuals with evidence of expertise in any infectious disease area are welcome to apply. Those with training and expertise in modern epidemiologic and biostatistical methods are preferred. The successful candidate will have experience in application of epidemiologic principles in population-based infectious diseases, emerging infections, and/or pathogen transmission. Candidates should have a MD, DrPH, DVM or PhD with applicable background, training and experience in epidemiology and infectious disease.

Specific research interests may include: infectious disease surveillance and modeling, molecular epidemiology, zoonotic diseases, risk factor investigation, epidemic modeling or vaccine research. The successful candidate will have a strong portfolio with evidence of or the potential to develop excellence in teaching, independent grant funding, and scholarly publications in epidemiology and public health. The faculty member should be eligible for the rank of assistant professor to associate professor, depending upon experience.
