The Department of Nutrition and Public Health at the University of Saint Joseph is seeking applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Public Health to begin in August, 2018. The faculty hired will also serve as the Director of the Bachelors of Science in Public Health program.

The department offers an undergraduate public health major, an accredited undergraduate dietetic program, a nutrition and wellness track, a post-graduate accredited dietetic internship, an online nutrition Master’s degree program, and an anticipated online Masters in Public Health (MPH) program. Faculty within the department also conduct research with several active grants.

Position Description

The person in this position will join the faculty of the Nutrition and Public Health Department, which houses the public health major and minor, and an anticipated MPH program beginning in Fall 2018. As Director of the Bachelor of Science Public Health Program, this faculty will provide leadership and administrative guidance to implement and grow the undergraduate public health program, and in conjunction with the Director of the Master’s in Public Health program, fulfill requirements to seek future accreditation with the Council on Education in Public Health. The Director is also responsible for program reports, program curriculum, procurement and management of resources, management of preceptorships, and student advisement. This faculty will teach both undergraduate on-campus and graduate online classes with the goal of preparing highly qualified public health practitioners. Responsibilities as a USJ Professor comprise active participation in department, school, and university activities and committees. In accordance with the University’s mission, faculty members are also responsible for advancing development in pedagogy, scholarship, mentoring student research, and service to the university and affiliated communities.

Required Skills/Qualifications

Qualifications include an earned Dr.P.H or Ph.D in public health or a related field. Candidates with a clinical doctorate and M.P.H. will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience in on-campus and online teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, previous experience working in the public health field, and experience in program administration. Research or practice experience in social and behavioral health, health promotion, maternal and child health, or a related field, with demonstrated potential for grant funded scholarship, community engagement, and publications, are preferred. Candidates should have experience and skills necessary to work with an increasingly diverse student body and neighboring communities.
