Professor of Exercise Sports Nutrition
Position: The Program in Nutrition invites applicants with expertise in exercise and sports nutrition to apply for a full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach graduate courses, supervise graduate student research, and conduct a focused program of research.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate in exercise and sports nutrition or a closely related area and basic background in exercise science/kinesiology. The person should have a strong record of scholarly accomplishments and ability to secure external funding to support research, or evidence of promise. The person should also demonstrate ability to teach graduate courses in exercise and sports nutrition and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advisement of master’s and doctoral students. Given the nutrition program’s focus on application as well as basic science, we are seeking applicants whose area of research extends the current areas of nutrition scholarship at Teachers College. Priority for applied research areas include, but are not limited to, the science of exercise and sports nutrition and applications to strategies for behavior change and policy, particularly in children and youth, athletes, and others. Credentials as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics are required.
Rank: Assistant or associate professor. The position is tenure-track.
Responsibilities: Provide leadership for the MS degree in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (NEP), which is a joint program of the Nutrition and the Applied (Exercise) Physiology programs. Teach graduate-level courses in exercise and sports nutrition and advanced nutrition science; supervise practical experiences for students in a variety of sites; provide academic and career advisement to NEP students; and develop and maintain a vibrant program of research that also provides research opportunities for students in the MS and the PhD in Nutrition and Physical Activity programs
About Joint Degree Program in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology: With the increased interest in exercise, sports, and wellness nutrition, we train graduate professionals who are nationally certified as a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RDN), and who have expertise about dietary factors related to exercise for health and sports performance, a thorough grounding in exercise physiology, and skills in nutrition counseling and education that, collectively, provides the foundation for working with children, youth and athletes, in corporate wellness programs and health clubs, private practice, and with out-patient and community-based programs.
