Twelve-month instructional position in the Physical Therapist Assistant Department. Serves as the Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Texas licensure or eligibility;
  • A minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  • A minimum of five years experience in clinical practice that includes experience in the PT/PTA relationship;
  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience;
  • Experience in administration, including academic governance and fiscal and human resource management;
  • Experience in educational theory and methodology (curricular design, development, implementation and evaluation);
  • Experience in instructional design and methodology;
  • Experience in student evaluation and outcomes assessment (Including the equivalent of nine credits of coursework in educational foundations – to be evaluated upon transcript evaluation). (Program director qualifications per APTA)

Specific Position Duties:
Director Specific:

  • Supervise faculty in all matters pertaining to policies and procedures of the College;
  • Manage routine procedures necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the department;
  • Maintain program accreditation (including submission of required fees and documentation, including reports of graduation rates, performance on state licensing or certification examinations and employment rates; notification of expected or unexpected substantive change(s) within the program, and of any change in institutional accreditation status or legal authority to provide postsecondary education; Coordinate planning the instructional program and policies;
  • Supervise implementation of instructional program and policies;
  • Design and implement selected instructional didactic and laboratory activities;
  • Coordinate program recruitment, admission and retention activities;
  • Evaluate student didactic and laboratory outcomes;
  • Prepare and supervise the departmental budget;
  • Prepare information for the college catalog and specific bulletins pertaining to the department;
  • Coordinate other program administrative activities;
  • Teach assigned Physical Therapist Assistant classes and labs according to approved course syllabi;

Faculty Specific:

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field;
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college;
  • Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners;
  • Provides students with written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.;
  • Administers tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives;
  • By various ways and means of instructing students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn;
  • Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity;
  • Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities;
  • Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner;
  • Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means;
  • Effectively handles routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the department chair;
  • Submits required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the department chair;
  • Maintains effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community;
  • Maintains individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements;
  • Assists with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs; and,
  • Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service.
