The Department of Nursing seeks an experienced, doctorally prepared educator, qualified to teach in upper division and master level nursing courses, and scholar to join the tenured/tenure track faculty September 2018.  The qualified faculty member will be appointed to the rank of Professor or Associate Professor based on qualifications.

California State University, San Bernardino (a Hispanic serving Institution) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles.  CSUSB offers programs through the colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.  CSUSB serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate and one doctoral degree as well as 13 programs with national accreditation.

Typical Activities
The faculty candidate will be expected to fulfill a full-time academic role in undergraduate and/or graduate nursing which includes teaching theory and clinical nursing courses informed by evidenced based practice.  Responsibilities include participation in scholarship, department and university committees, contributions to student success, participation in program review and accreditation reporting, and community and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in nursing or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Masters degree in nursing required if doctorate is not in nursing.
  • Sufficient evidence of academic experience, teaching excellence, scholarship (e.g. research, grant writing, refereed publications/presentations) and professional service, to warrant appointment at the rank of professor or associate professor.
  • Candidate must be eligible for California licensure and Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approval at time of appointment in one or more of the following specialties including Psych/Mental Health, Public Health, Community Health, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Medical Surgical Nursing and/or Geriatrics Nursing.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment with colleagues, staff, students and others.

Preferred Qualification:

  • PhD in nursing.
  • Graduate preparation and certification in the specialty of Behavioral Health Nursing.
  • Experience in assessment, evaluation and regulatory documentation.
  • Professional/academic service in program and/or committee leadership.
  • Experience in teaching students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural and academic backgrounds.

Supplemental Information
All nursing faculty must meet healthcare agency requirements for clinical instruction of students as a consideration of employment.  This will include criminal background checks, drug screening and compliance with the current health and safety requirements of each clinical site.
