Full Time, Continuing Position

The Director of the RN to BSN Program reports to the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Physical Education and is responsible for all curricular, budgetary, and personnel matters of the Program; and provides leadership/vision in fulfilling the Program, Department, Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education, and University missions and goals.

The Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education has transformed the teaching landscape of Chicago, with roots tracing back to the city’s first teacher education institution. Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in nursing or a health related discipline; a record of successful and increasingly responsible administrative leadership in higher education; holds a current unencumbered nursing license in the State of Illinois or is able to obtain the license within 6 months of appointment; a minimum of 5 years of nursing experience within the last 10 years, including 3 years of experience as a faculty member in a baccalaureate or higher degree program; 3 to 5 years of experience in an administrative role in an academic nursing program; a record of excellence in program and curriculum development; experience with national, regional, and professional accreditation processes; and demonstrated record of distinguished teaching, research activities and service consistent with the rank of Associate Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a quality innovative on-line RN to BSN completion program that is accessible to a diverse and multicultural student population;
  • Progressive experience in providing leadership and working collaboratively with faculty in the development of online and hybrid academic nursing programs;
  • Commitment to and experience working with diverse populations consistent with the University’s mission documents and description of “Diversity at Northeastern Illinois University” located at http://www.neiu.edu/about/strategic-plan/diversity-northeastern;
  • Experience with university faculty hiring procedures;
  • Experience with faculty evaluation procedures for retention, promotion and tenure, and post-tenure review;
  • Experience establishing educational and clinical partnerships that promote health and health care to meet the needs of a dynamic, diverse, and multicultural global society;
  • Experience with program assessment and evaluation of student outcomes;
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets;
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with faculty, students, administrators, staff and external constituencies;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with diverse constituencies;
  • Understanding of and willingness to work in a collective bargaining environment;
  • Personal qualities to include transparency, integrity, good judgment, creativity, and a sense of humor.

Essential Job Requirements

  • Develop the RN to BSN program in accordance with accreditation requirements;
  • Maintain State Board of Nursing and Commission on Collegiate Nursing standards;
  • Collaborate with the Chair of Health Sciences and Physical Education and the Dean of the Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education to ensure adequate faculty to meet the program’s mission, goals, and expected student and faculty outcomes;
  • Collaborate with various departments to develop curricular areas of concentration for the BSN degree;
  • Work closely with the Office of Enrollment Services to ensure recruitment efforts are fruitful, bringing qualified and appropriate numbers of students to the Program;
  • Collaborate with the director of El Centro and all University locations;
  • Coordinate both planning and instructional activities among departments and programs on campus in order to create and sustain the RN to BSN program;
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with external organizations and agencies pertinent to the program;
  • Develop and provide meaningful staff development opportunities for the nursing program to enhance the quality of instruction, recruitment, and retention;
  • Participate in the University’s recruitment, retention, and graduation initiatives;
  • Carry out administrative functions including but not limited to curriculum development, outcomes assessment, budget management, course scheduling and participating in the hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff;
  • Teach in the RN to BSN program as assigned;
  • Maintain all program activities necessary for accreditation and future re-affirmation of accreditation;
  • Show evidence of skill and knowledge that uses innovative teaching methods

and approaches to the education of RN to BSN students;

  • Generate continuing scholarship through presentations, publications, grant writing, etc.;
  • Serve as a member of university, college, and department committees and/or

Councils as appropriate.

  • Contribute to continuous program assessment and revision that addresses on-going improvements to meet its mission, goals, expected outcomes, and selected professional standards and guidelines.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision benefits, sick and vacation days, and participation in the State Universities Retirement System.
