The school is searching for a chair to lead and provide strategic vision and direction for the Department of Pharmacy Practice (DOPP). The chair reports directly to the dean and is the academic and administrative leader of the department. S/he is responsible for the recruitment and retention of the faculty and staff and oversees all operations in the department, including finances, facilities and specialized equipment.
The chair works closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment and the other department chairs to deliver a high quality, integrated curriculum and to assess its delivery and success. The chair is also responsible for promoting and supporting research in the DOPP and works with the Dean and Associate Dean for Research to ensure that faculty have sufficient time and resources to carry out their research. The chair develops the professional potential of his/her faculty and should exemplify the same high level of scholarship, teaching and service expected of the faculty.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Manage the DOPP faculty and provide supervision of departmental staff
- Demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence across the spectrum of pharmacy education including didactic, interprofessional, skills and experiential education
- Build and demonstrate a departmental commitment to research excellence and innovation
- Participate in the school’s leadership team
- Recruit new faculty through identification of the curricular, experiential and research needs of the school in collaboration with the school’s leadership team
- Develop and manage a departmental budget
- Assist in the development and stewardship of faculty practice sites
- Develop and oversee faculty practice site placement based on the educational and experiential needs of the school
- Demonstrate a commitment to the best teaching practices that will provide the highest quality professional education for our students
- Promote the profession of pharmacy by encouraging participation and leadership in state, regional and national pharmacy organizations
- Provide mentorship to faculty in areas of research, teaching and service
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and collegiality with faculty and staff throughout the school
Applicants must have earned a professional pharmacy degree, PharmD or a terminal degree (MPH, MBA, PhD) if the pharmacy degree is a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in academic pharmacy. Recent administrative experience at the level of vice-chair or higher is preferred. Although the area of scholarly activity is open, candidates should document their research experience, including peer-reviewed publications and funding.
