The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Department of Pharmacology is recruiting for a fulltime, non-tenure track faculty position as Research Assistant Professor available immediately to investigate the role of Wnt/beta-catenin and microRNAs in potassium channel tolerance to alcohol exposure of striatal neurons and in the transition from alcohol use to alcohol dependence.
- a Ph.D. in Physiology, Neuroscience, or Pharmacology;
- at least five years of postdoctoral experience with a solid record of publications relevant to the specific field of investigation;
- hands-on proficiency or, at least, familiarity with the following techniques: patch-clamp electrophysiology (voltage- and current-clamp) in both slices and isolated MSN from rodent striatum; recombinant DNA and biochemical methods, including use of microRNAs and quantitation of transcripts; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy;
- successful experience in directing junior fellows and leading a small research group.
The selected candidate will be responsible for directly supervising laboratory students, fellows and technicians, writing scientific papers, presenting data at scientific meetings and applying for grants.
