Philosophy & History

The Master’s College, a Christian liberal arts college, exists to advance the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping men and women for excellence in service to Him in strategic fields of ministry and vocation. This is accomplished through unreserved commitment to worshiping God, submitting to the authority of the Scriptures, nurturing personal holiness, serving the local church, and penetrating the world with the Truth.

The Master’s College offers to Christian college students an opportunity for higher education in accord with biblical truth. The College purposes to cultivate in the student an intellectual curiosity, a habit of careful analysis of such truth, including as many differing views of truth as are possible within the context of the student’s major.

The Master’s College desires to have a major part in directing students toward the service of Christ. In doing this, the College encourages students toward high ideals and achievement spiritually, intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Moreover, the College is concerned that its graduates are equipped with the necessary skills for their chosen vocation.

The Master’s College originally began May 25, 1927 as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary and was located in downtown Los Angeles. In the summer of 1961 the campus was moved to its current 100-acre Placerita Canyon site in the Santa Clarita Valley. The College changed its name to The Master’s College in 1985 when Dr. John F. MacArthur, Jr. became its president. The College currently has approximately 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students and offers 52 emphases within 14 academic major departments. The Master’s Seminary, located on the campus of Grace Community Church, has approximately 300 students. In 1996 the College began operation of an extension program (called IBEX) at a facility near Jerusalem, Israel.

The Master’s College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
