Job Title: Coordinator / Instructor, Nursing Assistant
Reports to: Program Director, Nursing Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities:
The coordinator/ instructor of Nursing Assistant programs is primarily responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction and for providing those related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming. As a member of the Nursing Assistant program faculty, the coordinator / instructor is also accountable for assisting and supporting program director, associates and / or departmental dean as needed in meeting the instructional and curricular requirements of the program, department and division. More specifically and consistent with the employee’s current contract of appointment, the coordinator / instructor is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Teach Nursing Assistant courses 12 – 15 contact hours, as assigned, for the full duration of the scheduled instruction.
2. Provide quality instruction at all times, teaching classes for the entire class period and properly covering course materials and competencies as specified in course outlines;
3. Provide academic advisement for students taking courses in the program as determined and assigned by the program Director and /or Department Head;
4. Teach assigned courses with special attention to the college’s mission, its commitment to the open door philosophy, and student success;
5. Contribute to the development and implementation of competency-based education and utilize available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials;
6. Be responsible for ordering and maintaining lab equipment and supplies used in training and for the general maintenance of the nursing laboratory;
7. Assist the program director in the identification, preview and acquisition of needed educational resources, including textbook selection, library and reference materials, instructional software and other instructional provisions;
8. Participate in student eligibility evaluation, as assigned; assist in the recruitment of students and placement of graduates;
9. Assist the program director in planning implementing, coordinating and evaluating program’s institutional effectiveness objectives as requested;
10. Implement and enforce college academic policies and procedures together with administrative rules and regulations and other controls intended to maintain order and highest standards of instruction;
11. Participate in program, departmental, divisional and institutional meetings and other announced activities;
12. Maintain complete office, student records, and instructor records as needed; processing reports, forms and all other requested paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy and completeness of all data;
13. Maintain office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and department, division and college;
14. Participate in training and other opportunities for continued professional development, including attendance at off campus activities, as feasible and generally staying abreast of developments in the field of instruction;
15. Assist in the interview and selection process of new faculty.
16. Serve as liaison between the clinical faculty, the program director and the affiliate agencies in regards to scheduling and coordinating of clinical rotations;
17. Assist the program director in providing orientation of classroom and clinical faculty and preceptors in the delivery of appropriate clinical instruction
18. Assist the program director in providing regular meetings of the clinical faculty and agency personnel, discussing common clinical problems and improving the delivery of the clinical experiences;
19. Assist the program director in evaluating the instructional staff and make recommendations toward the improvement of instruction
20. Maintain proper communication and supportive relations at all times with all other unit and branches of the division and the college, providing assistance to them in carrying out their respective functions;
21. Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the program director, associate and /or department dean, and/or president in meeting the needs of the program, department, division and college.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
1. The coordinator/ instructor must hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina, and have a minimum of two (2) calendar years of full-time employment in direct patient care or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
2. The coordinator/ instructor must have minimum educational credentials of a diploma in nursing, as associate degree in nursing, and /or a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
3. The coordinator/ instructor must have at least one (1) year experience in providing care for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.
4. The coordinator/ instructor must have at least one (1) year experience in the provision of long term care facility services or one year experience supervising or teaching of students in a long term care facility, or one year of work experience in a skilled nursing facility that is a distinct part of a hospital.
5. The coordinator/ instructor must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in successfully teaching or training adult learners.
6. The coordinator/ instructor must demonstrate competence in oral and written communication and have proven ability in educational program management.
Normal Working Hours:
The coordinator / instructor is required to work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week according to a flexible schedule that may include day, evening, and weekend responsibilities and/ or duties.
