Brief Description of Duties: The position is a twelve-month, tenure-track appointment, with rank and salary commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include academic/clinical research and teaching. Content area expertise should include:
Pediatric theory, practice, and clinical research in pediatric motor skills
Neuromuscular clinical logic and skills
In addition to teaching, candidates primarily will direct research in the Human Performance and Biodynamics (HPB)Laboratory (www.biodynamicslab.org). Located in Winston-Salem, the HPB Lab is a collaborative venture between Winston-Salem State University's Department of Physical Therapy and Wake Forest University School of Medicine's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The 2000 square foot lab includes 10 high speed cameras (Motion Analysis), 4 AMTI force plates embedded in a walkway, Norazon Wireless EMG, NeuroCom Balance Maser, PEDAR pressure mapping system, a GaitRite walkway, mobile sway platform, IREX virtual reality testing and rehabilitation system, metabolic cart and various personal computers for data collection/reduction. Experience working with visual3D and Matlab software is highly desired but not necessary. Opportunities also exist to collaborate with a clinical pediatic gait analysis team.
Competencies: The knowledge and skill set of the individual should include expertise in pediatrics and neurologic rehabilitation. As an assistant/associate professor, the individual must hold a doctoral degree in physical therapy or related speciality. Three to five years of professional practice experience is preferred. Previous experience with physical therapy education is desired. Good interpersonal skills and evidence of a history of working with diverse and underserved populations is essential.
Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications): Preferred applicants will have a terminal academic or post professional doctorate degree (PhD, ScD, or EdD); Persons holding the DPT degree with an extensive clinical background and earnest interest in ongoing academic and professional development will also be considered.
An active physical therapy license.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: The candidate must be licensed or license-eligible in North Carolina.
ABPTS PCS preferred but not required
