Title: Clinical Coordinator, Experiential Pharmacy Education

Job Description: The individual serves in the development, implementation, and quality assurance of Experiential Pharmacy Education. The individual is assigned to the Office of the Dean and works under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Expansion of Experiential Sites and Preceptors
Network with pharmacy practitioners through a variety of means (ex. active membership in professional pharmacy organizations/societies/associations, attend professional social events, etc.)

Build relationships at existing preceptor sites to lead to further contacts and future opportunities.

Identify experiential learning opportunities for the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs).

Introduce experiential course objectives and outcomes to experiential site personnel and prospective preceptors.

Evaluate new experiential sites and new pharmacy practitioner preceptors and submit a written report to the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education complete with recommendations.

Collect all required information from new experiential sites and new pharmacy practitioner preceptors to initiate or expand the affiliation process.

Verify pharmacy licensure of prospective preceptors.

Initiate and follow through to completion the entire affiliation agreement process.

Explain preceptor benefits to site personnel and prospective preceptors.


Preceptor and Site Development
Provide on-site preceptor development and preceptor orientation to the Experiential Pharmacy Programs.

Assist preceptors in designing site specific syllabi that meet programmatic outcomes.

Assist the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education in development, implementation, and assessment of the College's preceptor development program.

Share student evaluations with the site and preceptors and help devise a plan to improve the educational experience at the site if applicable.


Preceptor Availability and Student Placement
Determine and document preceptor availability for all experiential courses (IPPEs, APPEs) on an ongoing basis.

Document changes in preceptor availability.

Assist with student placement as needed.


Quality Assurance
Visit all sites annually to evaluate programmatic outcomes, site progress, and quality of offered experiential experiences.

Submit a written evaluation for each annual site visit to the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education.

Review student evaluations of each preceptor/site.

Communicate assessment findings (student evaluations, aggregate data, site visit results) along with recommendations to the preceptors.

Complete additional site visits as needed and document such visits for submission to the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education.


Experiential Pharmacy Programs Administration

Administrative Experiential Policy and Procedure
Implement and assist in the revision of experiential policy and procedures.

Inform preceptors of experiential policy and procedures.


College Committees and Service
Actively participate in all meetings of the Office of Experiential Pharmacy Education.

Actively participate in the College Experiential Pharmacy Advisory Board and recommend preceptors to serve on the Advisory Board.

Serve as a member of various College Committees as assigned by the Dean

Serve on additional projects and activities as assigned by the College Administration.

Assist the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education in developing and monitoring the benefits provided to preceptors.

Participate in the ACPE accreditation process as needed.


Administrative Communication with Preceptor Sites
Provide experiential updates to preceptors whenever necessary.

Contact preceptors to inform of changes to the experiential schedule.

Request student grades from preceptors when necessary.

Provide assistance in outlining unique site requirements and in assuring College compliance with unique site requirements.

Obtain annual updates from the site (contact information, updated syllabi, etc.) and forward such information to the Data Administrator for the Experiential Programs.


Administrative Communication with Students
Assist in the planning and implementation of the Annual Experiential Rotation Fair.

Meet with students to discuss experiential learning opportunities during "Meet the Coordinator Day" and as needed.

Participate in all student experiential orientation programs.

Participate in commencement and other College events that support the student body (White Coat Convocation, Student Awards, etc).


Awards
Assist in the student awards process by encouraging preceptors to nominate students.

Assist with the selection and coordination of preceptor awards including the Preceptor of the Year Award.


Other
Maintain individual site records.


Professional Development
Prepare a personal annual report following established outline and annually submit to the Assistant Dean for Experiential Pharmacy Education by May 1 each year.

Remain current in:

changes to the College's Doctor of Pharmacy Curriculum

new developments pertaining to the profession of pharmacy

the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education standards/guidelines that pertain to experiential learning

The experiential pharmacy literature.

Attend national, regional, and local professional meetings when applicable.

Maintain membership in professional organizations.

Achieve and maintain proficiency in the use of electronic applications as needed (RXpreceptor system, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook, etc.)


Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy or relevant Master's Degree.

Pharmacy License in New York State.

Valid driver's license and owns a car.

Prior pharmacy practice experience.

Prior experiential pharmacy experience (preceptor experience preferred).

Prior administrative experience preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience in the use of electronic applications (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access).
