Lecturer of Outdoor Recreation
Coastal Carolina University, Program in Recreation and Sport Management in the School of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Studies announces a full-time, Lecturer position beginning in August, 2010. Coastal Carolina University is seeking an energetic individual to provide quality instruction in the recreation and sport management academic program, plan, organized, and lead outdoor trips and instructional clinics, and help develop outdoor-related initiatives for the campus community.
Required Qualifications include: Master's degree in outdoor recreation/education or highly related area; demonstrated success in college teaching; supervisory experience in campus recreation; student advisement; strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills; experience in outdoor and trip programming; and relevant professional credentials (i.e. certifications). Preferred qualifications include experience planning ropes/challenge course/climbing walls and experience in academic program development.
Responsibilities include: The lecturer reports directly to and is evaluated by the Director of the School of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Studies. The position will be shared with Campus Recreation and also reports to the Director of Campus Recreation. Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to: outdoor recreation/education, leisure/recreation studies, outdoor leadership, and outdoor activity courses. Student advisement, program support, and related academic responsibilities are required. Campus recreation responsibilities include the organization, administration, and programming of outdoor programs and trips, working with the Chanticleer Outdoor Adventure program, advising the student club, and participation in the development of a challenge/adventure/ropes course. Responsibilities also include the select programming of outdoor clinics and events, as assigned by the academic program and campus recreation.
