The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology (http://www.uthsc.edu/allied/asp/) invites applications for the position of Chair. The Department is physically located in Knoxville on the University of Tennessee campus (UTK), and the Chair reports to Dean Noma Anderson in the College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. The department currently includes 10 academic faculty, and 14 clinical faculty. An MS degree in Speech Pathology, AuD Clinical Doctorate in Audiology, PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and undergraduate concentration (UTK) are offered. The professional degree programs are fully accredited by the CAA. The University of Tennessee is the state's comprehensive land-grant university with four major campuses plus the Space Institute and Institute of Agriculture. Knoxville is located adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Tennessee River, in the rolling hills of East Tennessee.
In addition to teaching, the Chair is charged with responsibilities that include: curriculum development, evaluation, and revision; overseeing clinical services and experiential education of students; managing human resources; allocating faculty and staff workloads; managing the budget and other responsibilities appropriate to the position. Successful applicants should present strong evidence of external funding, effective teaching, management and mentorship experience, success in optimizing the teaching and research talents of faculty and professional staffs, and participation in an academic environment with a reputation for excellence in teaching, clinical service, and research. Applicants should possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a diverse and complex academic community.
An earned terminal doctorate is required. PhD, current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence and eligibility for Tennessee licensure as an Audiologist or Speech Pathologist (http://health.state.tn.us/Boards/CD/index.htm) are preferred. Applicants must have a demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the development of diversity among the faculty and student populations and a commitment to multicultural curricular development.
This is a 9-month faculty appointment with a 3-month summer appointment. The start date and salary are negotiable.
