Fort Lewis College is seeking candidates for a new Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor position to develop and teach in a new undergraduate Public Health degree within the Department of Biology & Agriculture, School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences.
We seek a candidate who will direct implementation of a new undergraduate Public Health curriculum, teach key classes in the program, and engage students in collaborative research and community service projects. The department desires candidates with an interest in mentoring undergraduate researchers and who will generate extramural funding for their research program. We are particularly interested in candidates who are active in Native American health issues, public health and/or epidemiologic concerns relevant to the Four Corners region of the Southwest.
Fort Lewis College is a state-supported liberal arts college and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). Total enrollment at the College is about 4,000 students (27% are ethnic minorities of which 19% are Native Americans and 5% Hispanic).
Qualifications: Minimum requirements include an earned doctorate in public health, epidemiology, or related discipline and a record of teaching and scholarly activity. Additionally, involvement in community based public health programs is highly desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will help implement the newly developed curriculum in public health, as well as developing and teaching key classes in the program. The successful candidate will be expected to develop liaisons with local and regional agencies for student internship opportunities. The teaching load will be 9 teaching credit hours per term, plus oversight of student public health internships. Teaching responsibilities will include key classes within the new option, including Introduction to Public Health, Epidemiology, and an upper division course in the candidate's area of specialization or other courses key to the delivery of the curriculum. Scholarship appropriate to fulfill requirements for department and college tenure and promotion are expected.
