Description The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine Knoxville invites applicants to an assistant professor position in the Department of Pathology.

Qualifications: American Board of Pathology, AP/CP Board Certification; Medical Licensure in the State of Tennessee.

Responsibilities: Candidate will provide general anatomic pathology and clinical pathology services with an emphasis on surgical pathology for the medical Center; participate in the education of pathology residents, fellows, medical technologists, and medical staff, and pursue research/ scholarly activity and services as appropriate for a faculty member.

Other Comments: The University of Tennessee Medical Center located in Knoxville is a tertiary care referral facility for a population of 1.5 million people in east Tennessee, southeastern Kentucky, and western North Carolina. This is an excellent opportunity combining the benefits of an academic and private practice. The department candidate will be a member of the Department of Pathology teaching faculty and will hold an appointment in the Graduate School of Medicine.

The department is made up of thirteen pathologists, plus other consultant professionals, encompassing subspecialty expertise in cytopathology, surgical pathology, forensic pathology, immunopathology, renal pathology, ocular pathology, oral pathology, blood bank/transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, and clinical microbiology. The department has an ACGME-approved residency program for 10 residents and fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology. Annual case volumes include 22,000 surgical specimens and 30,000 cytology accessions, including 5000 non-gynecologic specimens and 1200 fine needle aspirations.
